Exercise for Weight Loss – What about exercise?
Exercise for Weight Loss
I talk a lot about the importance of diet and what I eat in my weight loss. It is the most important part of weight loss after all. I try to focus on food because I enjoy it but I have been spending a lot more time on fitness over the last 6 months. I have never really enjoyed exercise for the sake of working out. I do enjoy activities that happen to be exercise but I have a hard time getting most of those into my schedule between the kids and work. Here I want to talk about exercise for weight loss.
I thought it might be helpful to some of you to have a list of workouts I love! I have a pretty great little routine sorted out. It isn’t too intense or time-consuming and the best part is its free! A lot of people think you need to join a gym to lose weight but that just isn’t true. You really don’t need to exercise very hard or for very long to see results. Just a little bit every day will help you meet your goal! Try aiming for 30 minutes to 1 hour every day of any combination of these things below to go along with your meal prep!
Walk the walk
I always suggest starting out with walking if someone doesn’t exercise much or they feel like they don’t have a lot of time to exercise. Walking for an hour in the morning or after dinner is a great way to get a little light exercise in each day. Being sneaky by adding extra walking into your day is a great way to exercise! It’s as simple as parking at the back of parking lots when you go shopping or taking the stairs instead of an elevator whenever you can. I really enjoy going to a nearby track and climbing the stairs in the bleachers and walking laps on the track in between. You don’t have to die on a treadmill in a gym to reach your goals even though sometimes it feels that way!
Apps worth trying
It’s a great little app that has a free version and a Pro subscription option (that is actually pretty reasonable for what you get.) Just sign up, set up your profile and start a program based on your goals. The app gives you short workouts to work through and you can do multiple in a row to build a longer more strenuous workout. They are each about 10 to 15 minutes long and can be pretty intense even though they don’t require any equipment. The best part is you can sub out the exercises if you feel the ones in the program are too easy or too hard and you can design your own workouts using the exercises they have in the database.
I love this app! I have been plugging away at improving my endurance for a year. I had to take a break after an injury so I just started again using the app. I forgot how much I love it! If you’re not familiar with the app, ill explain: you start with a 5-minute walk, then alternate 60 seconds jogging and 90 seconds walking for 20 minutes. Follow that with a 5 minute cooldown walk. By the end of 8 weeks, you will be able to jog a full 3 miles/5 kilometres (30 minutes straight!) I can’t wait to get to the end and finally be able to jog for a whole 30 minutes!
YouTube Channels I Love
There are some really great youtube channels dedicated to exercise. I am constantly looking for new ones to try so if you have any favourites let me know in the comments and ill try them out and add them to the list.
If you like to dance around to fun to pop songs this one is for you. You will laugh your way through every one of these videos because Caleb and the girls are amazing and hilarious! Don’t take yourself too seriously and let yourself have some fun! The Fitness Marshall is fun for all fitness levels.
I love fitness blender for a no-nonsense workout. Their videos are all great and easy to follow. You can find workouts for all levels of fitness. I particularly like the low impact videos.
Everything Cassie does is fantastic! She has a great enthusiastic energy that makes you want to push just a liiiiittle bit harder. I really like her Song Challenge workouts (can you tell I like things short and sweet?)
This channel is a new one for me but I’ve tried a few and I really enjoyed them. My favorite so far is this Tabata workout. They have a great assortment of workouts and a lot of workouts for varying levels of fitness.
If you like yoga or would like to try it but hate the idea of going to a studio you should definitely try Yoga With Adrienne. She is a wonderful instructor and her videos are very well done. She has a large library of videos to work through including some great beginner ones.
I hope you will give some of these a try and let me know what ones are your favourites! Remember we should workout to celebrate what our bodies can do, NOT to punish ourselves for what we ate! Find something you enjoy and run with it! If you are new here and aren’t familiar with meal prepping you can find my beginners guide here and find out what my own meal prep routine looks like here and of course all my recipes are here!
